Construction Supervisor Training

How to be a better Construction Site Supervisor?

We Answered:

First of all. IT's worse than high school. Gossip, gossip, gossip. Start by figuring out who doesn't have a problem. Make sure you develop a relationship. Just a chit-chat every other day... for a few minutes. It doesn't matter that a few guys don't like you. You can get rid of them eventually. Get a feel for the general attitude on site. Try to talk to someone new every day and ask them how it's going. Being on the inside I have known the few disgruntled guys who have everything against the new guy. They don't last long. We don't give a sh#t. It's just them and their attitude. And, it runs them off site. If you find there are some problems bring solutions, but, only if you know for sure you can solve them. Otherwise there will be talk, talk, talk. Be fair about OT and anything else. Always remember what you say and write it down for future reference. You need to be there for the guys like mommy and daddy. All the foremens talk about you. All the workers. Get used to it. Act like you mean business and if someone has a problem with your inexperience at least you have the maturity the position requires. Don't be afraid to remind them of that. Sometimes they just need a foot in their mouth to shut up. And, that's all it will take. Other times a way to get rid of the trouble makers will come...good luck hope it helps.

ANY SPECIF CORRECTIONS?Should I hav objective onmy resume 4 a gen office job? Should I include the bakery job?

We Answered:

Giving it a quick once over (I work in the staffing industry), it looks good. The objective looks good & you should keep it. You might want to write "relevant employment history" or "related" instead. Go ahead & keep the bakery job off since it isn't directly related.

How much does WalMart pay, and what electronics positions are there?

We Answered:

You might want to reconsider them as a prospect. If you have cable, there is a documentary that came on HBO recently where they show all aspects of that company. While they have excellent prices, they do not care about their employees, their customers - just $$$$.
