Graduate Program Forensic Psychology

Marion Said:

Which has better opportunity, bachelor in forensic psychology or bachelor in psych& minor in criminal justice?

We Answered:

Either one would be good. I say follow your heart and don't worry too much about making a whole lot of money. At some point in your life, you are going to have to get up and go to work every day. Doing what you love will outweigh the money and workplace politics at some point.
Regardless of where you obtain your degree, as you progress through the course work, you will be better able to hone your interests to a more specialized area.

Janet Said:

forensic science grad program?

We Answered:

It's called forensic science because it is the application of scientific principles and disciplines to answer a legal question. The very nature of forensic science based in chemistry (e.g., analytical measurement of residue, toxins and other chemicals), biology (e.g., DNA analysis), pharmacology (e.g., toxicology) and to a lesser degree physics (e.g., gun shot and blood splatter analyses, motor vehicle accident reconstruction) or computer science (computer terrorists, fraud, etc.). It would be very difficult to take graduate courses in these disciplines without solid undergraduate preparation. However, you don't have to change majors to take more science courses. Take summer courses and double up on others during the regular semester. MS or PHD programs in forensics will look at the courses you completed and your grades, not your major. In fact, if you had strong science courses and a psychology major, that might be helpful. If you are really turned on by forensic science, go for it.

Mabel Said:

What are the best graduate schools and/or programs for Psychology?

We Answered:

As a psychology major, you should know that your question is too broad to really be answered sufficiently in such a small space :). Best can be defined in so many different ways. Also, you chose four subfields of psychology. Two of which (clinical, social) are found at many universities. Also the different degree choices make the question that much more complicated. But here is my opinion.

Chicago
Northwestern University
Loyola University of Chicago
University of Illinois Chicago
University of Chicago
Rosalnd Franklin University

Boston
Harvard
Boston College
Boston University
University of Massachussets

Not really sure about Seattle. Hope this helps to some degree

Violet Said:

How hard is it to get into John Jay Graduate School for forensic psychology with a 2.8 gpa?

We Answered:

Most grad schools want at least a 3.2 GPA. In terms of GRE, the average is 650 for quantitative, 600 for verbal, and 5.0 for the written. Do you have related work experience or a professor that will agree to work with you in advance? That often helps as well. Good luck!

Arnold Said:

To do forensic psychology do you have to study at a graduate school with a dedicated forensic psychology major?

We Answered:

That would be a good idea./
