Does anyone knows a good long distance education program?

This site has some good information on accredited online bachelors degrees in business management and some colleges that offer them:

Jimmy Said:

I'm going to school to get a degree what degree would help in developing an online business?

We Answered:

a BBA - Bachelors of Business Administration - this will give you the skills to do any type of business - (you can take course in e-commerce, computer networks, etc...) plus the key skills in accounting, finance, marketing, human resources management and business strategy - look for a university that may focus on e-business or on small enterprise development

Gail Said:

what is the best place to get an online degree from?

We Answered:

It is difficult for anyone to say (especially somebody on Yahoo answers who knows nothing about you) what the best place to get an online degree from is - as there are a large number of criteria that need to be considered. What might be the best college for you might not be the best fit for me. What is important is that you take some time to contact a number of schools that offer online bachelors degrees so you can ask them questions about their specific programs. I would be sure to ask them about tuition costs, schedule requirements, professor interaction, reputation with potential employers, job placement assistance and financial aid. I would also make sure that any college you consider is regionally accredited so you can be sure that any degree you earn will be accepted by potential employers and other academic institutions.

Too often people choose to enroll in the first program they find instead of taking the small amount of time to do a little bit more research. An extra hour now can save you a ton of time, money and frustration down the road by enrolling in the wrong program.

This site has some good information on regionally accredited online degrees in both business and education (and a wide array of other disciplines) and some colleges to help begin/expand your search:
http://www.ecollegefinder.org

I think you can fill out your information on there and the colleges will send you more info on their programs for free. Good luck!

Online Education?

We Answered:

DETC is legit and is recognized by the US Govt. That said, if you want to transfer credit or go to a regionally accredited graduate program then you will likely find yourself out of luck.

DETC accreditation is most valuable when you're considered vocational/technical programs as a terminal (you won't want to transfer) program.

For example: the programs at PCDI/Ashworth are DETC and those I've seen in the vocational category are excellent. Their classes in the associates degree programs won't transfer to your local state university though.

Go with regional accreditation if you want to continue your education. DETC is not a regional accreditor.

For those who has taken (or taking) online classes to obtain a degree?

We Answered:

The important consideration here is the quality of the school. Harvard University and the University of Phoenix are both regionally accredited (RA) and both offer online courses. One is generally considered much better than the other.

In addition to the reputation of the school, keep in mind that online courses from a quality program are generally much harder than courses taken in the classroom. An online course will require that you read the entirety of the text and that you write papers for assessment. There won't be a lot of multiple guess exams. Also, if you have comprehension troubles, it can be more difficult to get individualized attention in an online class. Classes on campus in an evening program is usually an easier route if you have the available time. At many (if not most) schools, you can combine courses online and in the classroom.

Costs range from very affordable (your local state university) to incredibly expensive (some of the premier elite colleges) and everything in between. Very often, high cost does not indicate high quality.

Quality of programs is variable too. Academic research shows clearly that online students very often learn more than their in-class counterparts. But this depends entirely upon the school offering the class. There are good schools and bad schools.

You are not restricted to the likes of UoP, St Leo, DeVry, AIU for online study. Very many colleges have programs online now and you should examine all of your options starting with your local state university. UMass, Florida State, U Maryland, for example all have online degrees.

One of my favorite resources for programs is the list at Petersons.com http://www.petersons.com (click on "online programs") and search there. You will be very surprised at which schools have degrees online.
