Distance Learning Doctorate
We Answered:
Not sure if this may help, but many universities offer distance learning courses for graduate and PhD in business, including some of the best, like Harvard, Stanford and Berkley. There are others, you need to check their programs for requirements to completion. Also recently found a site for MIT called: opencourseware,<>http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/index.htm>
Not sure about degrees, but they offer courses and access to great database and you get grades for completion-you may be able to use those grades to get credit for study, work or life experience.
I received credit for work, and life experience while doing graduate studies at the University of Illinois through a program called University Without Walls, UI called it Governors Program, other universities have different names for these programs-these programs cut the amount of time you spend to complete your graduate degrees (specially if you have been working in the field) You have to check the universities in your area to see what they offer in this area.
As you know, when you get into the masters, doctors degrees, there are certain requirements to be met, since universities have to stand behind the degrees they give. Another aspect about these degrees is if you have to pay or can't affort to pay yourself, then you have to deal with Stafford Loans (have to be paid later) at that lever you are not eligible for PELL grants, unless you get an internship.
However, there many changes and altenatives that are offered in the field of education these days. You just have to do a little research. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Is there such a thing as a legitimate PhD (Doctorate in business) which can be obtained online? We Answered:
Ideally, you would want to go to a school which is recognized in the research field you were considering. A doctorate degree is bestowed to a student who the academe feels merits the former to be called a peer. This is normally done in the traditional schools. However, there have been some legitimate schools who focus on self-study and who offer the same challenge as brick-and-mortar. There are so much diploma mills in the world that you really have to pick the right school. In order to remove doubt and skepticism, you better focus on getting in a traditional university, where you can interact with your professors and fellow students.

Is a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) or a PhD in Finance worth it even if I am in a stable job?We Answered:
Yes it is worthy taking it. However much it might not look like it now but the organization sector is changing in that more and more people are having competitive educational background. failure to have the Doctorate of Phd which ever you decide might make you miss that promotion, get less assignment and in worse scenerio get retrenched. I believe it would be best to have it before 30. If you are in a stable job, how about attending part time classes particularly in the evening. You will have both the work and education experience.Rene Said:
Can you put "Dr." before your name even if your doctorate degree comes from a distance learning institution? We Answered:
I could put "Nobel Prizewinner" before my name, and even if I did really win the Nobel prize, people would just think I was a jerk for advertising it.In my decades of experience in academia, the only people who regularly use "Dr." before their names are medical doctors. Those of us who earned doctorates in other fields usually don't use the honorific that way. It looks silly and pretentious.
I only put "Ph.D." after my name when absolutely necessary -- for instance, in contexts where I am asked to supply my academic credentials.
The validity of your degree from an unaccredited institution is another question altogether. Here's my opinion, with which you and others are free to disagree: If the institution through which you earned this degree is not regionally accredited (international accreditation is meaningless), and if you did not study under the direction of accomplished scholars with international reputations in your field, then you didn't earn a "real" doctoral degree, and claiming to hold one is ethically problematic.
In other words, a Ph.D. is not a piece of paper you own. It is an acknowledgment that internationally recognized experts in a particular field of study have guided your studies, have evaluated your original work, and have deemed you a peer. The degree itself is conferred by a university, and that university is comprised of a community of scholars who have recognized the value of your work. That's what matters.
