Business Management Career
Mattie Said:
How can you acquire and develop personal and work values in the career Business management? We Answered:
The best way is to get a job and work your way up to management by being a good employee and making a focused effort to learn everything you can. Taking business courses in college will help, but there is nothing like the practical training you get on the job.Clayton Said:
I've been considering a career in business management, maybe in the shoe industry, but I have a few questions? We Answered:
Either focus would serve you well, but if you plan to pursue retail management then the management concentration would be more appropriate. Both will offer most of the same classes. One focuses more on management of the enterprise where a marketing degree puts more emphasis on selling, trending and statistical analysis. Most people who pursue a marketing degree start out in sales. With a management degree you would likely start as a management trainee out of college.Tony Said:
which is a better career business management or marketing? We Answered:
That's a loaded question. The one that's "better" for you, might not be the one that's "better" for me. What it all boils down to is which one would be a better fit for you? If you would rather run a business, business management would probably be better. If you would rather SELL the business to the public, and get more creatively involved, then marketing is probably the better way to go.As far as which career makes more money, that's also a very difficult question to answer, as both sides have VERY wide varying pay scales. I am a District Manager in retail and I make $96,000 per year. I have a friend that's a District Manager and makes only $60,000 per year in a different company. Same title, VERY different pay.

How many years of college is necessary for a career in Business Management? We Answered:
It takes 4 years to get your bachelor's in business management. It takes approximately another 2 years after that if you want to pursue your master's. If you really want to get a business management degree, make sure that you choose a concentration to go with it so you will be able to be competitive when you get out, as far as finding a job. If I were you, I would study something like finance, information technology, or whatever you're really interested in (like maybe fashion merchandising if you're really into fashion.) The reason why this is important is because business management undergraduates come a dime a dozen and sometimes it can be hard to stand out when it comes to getting a job after graduation.Sonia Said:
I want to have a good business management career and I love business. But why is it that I hate Math!?We Answered:
Math in school can be pretty boring, because it's not related to anything in the real world. It's just equations.Trust me, once you are using math to figure out how much your bonus is this quarter, or how big a raise you are going to get, it's not boring at all!!!
Seriously, for a career in business, if you can multiply & divide, do fractions and percentages, you're golden. And if you're a little shaky at that stuff, you'll develop the knack when you need it.
