The very best thing to is get the best grades you can in a wide variety of subjects. Business school will teach you business - they do not have the time to teach you how to read, write, and think critically, which is what you should be doing in high school. You could add on a business course if offered, but a much better decision would be to get an internship or do some business-related volunteer work. Good luck!

It sounds to me like you should be looking at some non-profit agencies that are doing things that you approve of.

Just because they are non-profit doesn't mean they don't have paying jobs and when you go to work you can feel good about getting paid to be the steward you are being.

We Answered:

I did this. I was in marketing and I switched to elementary education. I think the best way to do the switch is to find an evening and online program. Chapman, University of Phoenix and some state universities have those types of programs. Before you begin, look at what, if any tests NJ requires. CA requires a CSET exam. It's a subject knowledge exam to get your credential. You can take and pass it before you begin a teaching program. Also, I'd consider getting a second authorization in another science area, chemistry, physics, or any other you have a pretty good knowledge of. It makes you more marketable, because often a school will have an opening for say 3 periods of biology and two of chemistry. Once you get to the point of student teaching, you will have to stop working during the day. You have to do the student teaching, and that can only be done during school hours. Start saving up for that now. You can always take a small student loan to get you over that point.
