Accounting and finance careers?

We Answered:

Assuming you are in the UK try CIMA:

More business orientated than ACA and more highly regarded than ACCA.

Re comment below. You sb aware that if you start your career in the public sector then you will tend to be typecast and find it more difficult to switch to the private sector in future.

There is a high demand for accountants in the private sector so look at the big jobs websites like Gaapweb or Accountancy Age. Most employers will pay for exam fees and course fees but you tend not to get time off work for study leave.

soni is reffering to US where the system is different. In the UK if you have a BSc in a business related subject then adding professional qualification like CIMA will put you in the best position in the jobs market. It also has the advantage that can start working, earning and building up your experience immediatly.

Accounting, Finance Salary careers?

We Answered:

I studied finance and Japanese in school, and work at a financial services company. My brother majored in accounting and is an accountant. Based on our experiences, it seems much easier to get a $100+K paycheck on the finance side. Starting salaries in NY are around $50K, but if you're very good, you can earn $100+K within 3-4 years.

BTW, if you're looking for a Wall St job, don't worry too much about your major. The trend these days is to hire a diverse academic background, so we actually look for a combination of business / liberal arts / engineering. As long as you know the general technical details of finance and accounting, you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Accounting or Finance careers?

We Answered:

You could do a double major in Finance by staying a little longer and you'll be a "dual threat" so to speak. Then get your CPA and MBA. I linked an article I found interesting recently on the subject (yes, I'm facing a similar dilemma):

Curtis Said:

What is the difference between a career in Finance and a career in Accounting?

We Answered:

a B.S. in Bus Admin is a useless degree
Finance is more banking/credit/loans/mortgages related
accounting is number crunching, financial statement prep, auditing
accounting is generally boring repetitive, often stressful
haven't worked in Finance field
FP/FA - mostly commission or salary with sales quotas - cold calling

What careers would be good for finance/accounting and criminal justice?

We Answered:

Certified Fraud Examiner , it is an accounting career that is involved in fighting fraud and other financial crime. You could work in many criminal justice fields higher up, you need a accounting backgroud and education.

In November 2010 Interactive Accounting introduced RSDataWeb & superMate. These two excellent tools enable seamless data integration of banking and investment transactions into an online superannuation financial reporting & tax form preparation platform. This allows the first steps to be taken towards best practice in Super Administration in Australia for tax accountants without off-shoring the work.
