I'll try answer your question in two parts:

Industry Growth - there's a USA government site called the Bureau of Labor Statistics (see the sources below) that I think contains what you are looking for. To quickly summarize: The expectation is that by 2018 the number of accounting/auditing jobs will grow by 22 percent which is well above the growth rate for other professions. And that growth is being driven by a combination of economic growth and the sheer amount of new regulations/accounting standards that will come into play.

Job Security - traditionally the answer to this would be a strong yes but that was before the world economy took a bit of a beat up in the last few years. For example, a lot of accountants lost their jobs in the financial services industry with collapses of companies like Lehmans. However, as long as the economy truly picks up and regulations tighten further as expected then good accountants will always be in demand.

But forget job security if you're not committed and willing to be the best accountant you can be.

does this mean you are taking accounting classes online? if you were to get your cpa, you would be able to get a much better job. look for bookkeeping jobs first always check your local unemployment office, Sunday paper, and online job sites.

At my country, its difficult to find part time employment in accounting fields, maybe easier at US. So what with long hours, work there a few years, got the experience then go elsewhere! Everyone does that in this industry.

Trust yourself and go for what you are passionate about. What's great, especially if you choose to start your own dog grooming business, is that you will at least have some of the skills required to run a business.

Remember that as a dog groomer, you will still have to interact with their owners.

I have a friend who is a dog groomer, pet sitter AND dog trainer. You can create your career to be whatever you want it to be.

I studied AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) when I was 25. A colleague of mine did it too. he was 10 years older than me!

If you put your head to it, it can be acheived within 3 years, home study too!

Qualifications to NVQ Level 3. or SQV level 3.

My assumption is that you are in the UK.

Now, my colleague works on the accounts for an investment company and I work for 2 x limited companies as their accountant. Though, I must admit I spend too much time on here too!!
